The US government has just signed an executive order proposing new tariffs designed to match the tax rates that other countries impose on US goods.
Although the details of these proposed reciprocal tariffs have not been revealed in full, early indications suggest that they are to be customized for each foreign trading partner based on a series of qualifications, including additional taxes, costs to US businesses, and other practices deemed by the trade offices to be “unfair.”
The US government indicated that the tariffs would not be imposed immediately but expressed a desire for expediency, noting that it would be a matter of ‘weeks’ to a maximum of ‘months’ until they are in place.
