International Longshoremen's Association Potential Labor Action Update

September 13, 2024

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has announced its intention to go on strike as early as October 1st, 2024 if a new agreement is not reached with the United States Maritime Alliance by that date.

Please see the ILA News Release for complete details.

This is a courtesy notice to inform you that should this come to pass, nearly all overseas imports and exports will be affected by this labor action, and significant delays along with increased pressure on other modes of transport are to be expected.

The best way to contend with such a situation is with a proactive approach. If you are an importer or exporter who utilizes ocean freight, you are encouraged to get in contact with your freight forwarder at your next convenience to begin planning for such an eventuality.

We will keep a close eye on this situation as it evolves and inform you of all updates.
