The International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA) has officially begun its labor action across eastern ports in the US.
A union representative has stated that they will stay on the picket line for “as long as it takes” to negotiate a new deal with the United States Maritime Alliance, looking for increased wages and a formal guarantee against new automation.
Please see the ILA statement for complete details.
This labor action is expected to impact imports and exports into and out of the US and, according to union representatives, will “for as long as it takes.” It is recommended that importers who regularly utilize those ports work with their freight forwarder to find alternative ports of entry now and in the immediate future.
