With the potential US government shutdown in the coming weeks, the US importers and exporters need to be mindful of the impact it could have on the government timeline of processing imports and exports into the US.

During previous shutdowns, US Customs and Border Protection, along with Partner Government Agencies continued to process entries. However, many experienced longer wait times, slower-moving exams, and greater challenges in communication. 

Should the shutdown commence, the below tips can provide stability:

• Send in your release requests and all supporting documentation as early as possible 
• Cross during standard business hours whenever possible
• Adjust delivery deadlines and expectations to account for delays
